YoDiv acceptable file formats for uploading your designs January 29th, 2008
- posted in: Help
The divlets are extremely good with files and the way they go about changing your masterpieces into fully accessible css compliant sites. However the little blighters do get things done allot quicker if they can get their hands on these types of formats:
PLATINUM FORMATS
(Always remember to outline your fonts if your not using a web font. See the list of web fonts here.)
PNG: Default file format for Macromedia Fireworks documents. The benefit here is layers allow the divlets to move and switch off certain elements helping them cut you design faster and reducing build time. The PNG format can be saved in various other programs, but you really want to use the applications default format to maximize the likeness of the export to your original design. Remember to convert your non web fonts to outlines or bitmaps when you are finished.
PSD: Default file format for Adobe Photoshop. Again the same principal as PNG’s here, layering and the ability to switch off certain elements allow the cutting process to move along smoothly. Please make sure you outline or rasterize non web fonts if you use a PSD.
GOLD FORMATS
(Always remember to outline your fonts if your not using a web font. See the list of web fonts here.)
AI or EPS: Default file formats for Adobe Illustrator. While the two formats save in very different ways, basically involving postscript and the way the documents are broken down, for the purposes of YoDiv web design either is fine. Again the way Illustrator allows us to handle layers and ease of item selection make this a popular choice for designers. Please remember to outline your non web fonts if you choose this format.
NAUGHTY FORMATS
JPGs, GIFs and PDFs: Although in a worst case scenario divlets can extract and build from these formats, they can experience some problems. Things such as font selection and correct color picking can be severely hampered by choosing these optimized “flat” formats. If you only export in these formats please give us a call and we’ll be very happy to talk you through your options.
OTHER INFORMATION
One very key thing to bear in mind when creating your designs is that the web loves to see your designs in RGB format at 72dpi. CMYK is not supported on the world wide web, and if your creations are in CMYK we will have to convert to RGB, which can in some cases cause some colors to appear differently.
